Social media is apart of everyone’s lives these days wether they like it or not. People you wouldn’t think would have social media actually do. For example, my mom has instagram, snapchat, facebook, etc. It has grown and effected everyone. Social media could be good for people because you can talk to people that live far away. I have a friend who lives in Tennessee and her family rarely comes into town so the only way I can talk to her is through social media.

But, social media also has it’s negative impacts on people. It can make people only want to be on their phones texting people, losing sleep, not focusing on school work, etc. The negative impacts will mostly take your attention away from school. The negative impacts will decreases the ability to focus and do school work. The real question is, do you think technology is a good or bad thing?

Deep fake is a synthetic media in which a person in an existing image or video is replaced with someone else’s words. Deep fake has many ways that it works, but the main way that it is used is by transferring facial movements of a person and then apply it to a picture. You can tell if a video is a deep fake if the body movements aren’t equal. For example, say if an eye movement was off in the picture or the mouth wasn’t lining up with the words that were being said, then it’s a deep fake.

Advantages of deep fake are that people in the Holocaust could tell their stories. Family members, if someone has died and they have a picture of them, this is a good way for them to reconnect with their loved one(s). But then some disadvantages of deep fake is that it could end up being like fake news. Someone could program a famous person and make them say something they didn’t say. An example would be the Barack Obama video that was shown in the TED Talk.

When I was a child, my favorite sport was soccer. I used to really love playing it because this was the sport that majority of my family played, so when we all went to our camp at Lake St. John, we would play adults vs. the kids. My mom out of all of the adults enjoyed playing the most but then she got hurt. She was chasing my cousin and slipped in the grass and pulled a muscle. Ever since then she has never tried to chase us or play a game with us where she had to run.

When I was in fifth grade I told my mom that I wanted to play club soccer like my cousin. Since I am old for my grade I was placed on a team with the current seniors and I was terrified. I felt so little compared to them and I felt as if they were more experienced than I was. I let this one soccer season determine if I wanted soccer in my future or not. The season was fine overall but I didn’t want to play as much anymore, so I started playing volleyball and I still play to this day.

My favorite place in the whole world is my camp at Lake St. John. Every time of the year Lake St. John is beautiful. During the winter this year it snowed and the water is finally starting to warm up again. During the summer my whole family goes to the camp and we have crawfish boils, play games, and make smores. This is my favorite time of the year because the relatives I never see always come and it is good to catch up with everyone.

My favorite memory from my family camp is when we have our annual family competitions. My cousin and I would always been on the same team and we would go against our uncle and cousin. Since our uncle and cousin grew up together they are very competitive, just like my cousin and me. They were my favorite people to play against since we all get into it. I can’t wait for summer to come and to see all of my family again!

At the beginning of English III, I was struggling with processing what I was reading. By saying this I am referring to both books and poems. Poems were more of a struggle because we had to try and make as many connections as we could. Books were more about keeping my focus and not reading the same phrase over and over again. Sometimes if I start to lose interest or just start dazing off I read the same phrase over and over or I keep reading but don’t think about what I’m reading.

Another thing I was struggling with at the beginning of English III was keeping my focus on an audiobook. I have never listened to an audiobook before, maybe as a kid but I probably wasn’t paying attention. When we first started reading “Say Nothing” as an audiobook, I didn’t like it. I had nothing to focus my attention on so when we would listen to the book, I would be dazing off. But, after we were given books, I realized it was much easier to listen to the narrator but also to read along with them, and, for me, it makes more sense.

I think all seasons of the year are great. Summer, it is a great season but it gets too hot for me. But it is the perfect time to go swimming, or go to the beach, get snowballs. You can basically do anything in summer. Fall is a rough season. I personally don’t like the cold, so starting to wear leggings or pants all the time annoys me. Winter is a big no for me. This is usually the time of year when people also get sick because it is too cold and they aren’t wearing enough layers. Spring is the perfect weather and an easier transition season than any others.

My personal favorite season is spring. The transition of going from cold to hot is much easier than going from hot to cold. In winter, I don’t like wearing layers and if you just stand still outside, you will be freezing. But when going into spring, you can finally wear shorts, but at the beginning, you can still wear sweatshirts because it’s still a bit cold.

“The Searcher” by Tana Fisher has been a very slow reading book. The author didn’t give a lot of background about what had happened in Cal’s life for him to move to another home. A couple of chapters in, the reader gets to see that Cal has moved to a different country, and then some chapters after that are when the reader figures out he moved to Ireland. The reader also gets to know that he left his home because there were issues with his ex-wife and it seems like she cheated on him, but there was no clarification of it, yet. I feel like this type of book is one that is a wait and see book. It feels as if the author is saying everything revealed in time.

“The Searcher” is about Cal trying to settle with a new life, but there is a boy, Trey, who won’t leave him alone. Somehow Trey figured out that Cal used to be a cop and asked him to look into his brother, Brendan’s, disappearance. Since Cal is new in town it is hard to get the information about Brendan and where he could have gone. Cal has been using the excuse “he is new in town” to talk to Brendan’s friends and family. He has also asked his neighbor, Mart, about Brendan, but he can’t give anything helpful. Cal is warned that this could be very dangerous for him because he doesn’t know what Brendan or himself could possibly be getting into.

The first time I ever left the country was my freshman year. It was for the annual Episcopal and Bristol student exchange programs. I thought the plane ride wasn’t going to be that bad, but it was awful. My mom gave me some medicine in case I started to feel bad on the plane or I couldn’t sleep, but I was supposed to take them before the plane was in the air. So, after we ate dinner on the plane I started to feel very tired, but I couldn’t go to sleep. I then took the medicine my mom gave me and I finally fell asleep. When we got to Spain and I met my host family, I was feeling very tired and all I wanted to do was sleep. We got back to my host family’s house and I got to meet their family, then my host and I went into her room to get all my stuff unpacked and we also watched a movie. I fell asleep during the movie and I felt so bad for my host because all of her friends wanted to meet me.

When I woke up we went to dinner, and after dinner, we started to get ready for bed. My host mom came in to tell us goodnight, but she could tell my face was red so she felt my head and it turned out, I had a fever. The next day, I was taken to the principal of Bristol and I hung out with her and the Episcopal teachers for the day, I was told if I wasn’t feeling any better I would have to go to the hospital. I ended up going to the hospital and I had to get my blood drawn, pee in a cup, and get my throat swabbed all for the first time. When the doctor came back in and talked to us about my results the only word I understand that came out of her mouth, because she was talking in Spanish, was the flu. But apparently, I had the better type of flu because all I had was a fever. Ever since this experience I have been a bit scared to eat plane food and go on long plane flights out of the country.

I decided to review the movie “The Great Gatsby” because it is one of my all-time favorite movies. It starts off in a mysterious atmosphere and a narrator who is also one of the main characters, Nick. One of the reasons why this is my favorite movie is because it goes back in time with Nick as the narrator, so we get to watch the movie from his point of view. When he first met Gatsby his life was flipped upside down, as you can tell by when he describes his first encounter with Gatsby. Truth be told, the only reason Gatsby and Nick became good friends was because Gatsby was in love with his cousin, Daisy. Throughout the movie, it is nice to see many relationships began and grow.

“The Great Gatsby” starts with Nick talking to his therapist because of the issues that being around Gatsy gave him. When Nick moves into a new town, he becomes neighbors with Gatsby, and because of that, he was invited to an annual Gatsby party. One day, Daisy was visiting Nick at his house and Gatsby showed up. Gatsby then tried to convince Nick to put in a good word for him because he has loved Daisy since before he had to go and fight in WW1. By the end of the movie, Daisy ends up leaving Gatsby and Nick. Gatsby was later then killed in his pool house, and only Nick attended his funeral.
